Kelowna’s Megan Osland is starting 2020 off strong after collecting a second place win in the Cactus Tour, held in Arizona.
The tour was created in 2005 for professional women golfers as a place to play outside of the LPGA and The Symetra Tour. It draws women golf professionals from all over the world as well as some amateurs that want to test their skills.
Osland started the tournament off strong by dunking her 150 yard eight-iron approach shot for an eagle on the 360-yard par four first hole of the Palmer course.
She continued with seven pars and then birdied the par five ninth hole, leaving her three under after 9.
She birdied the par four tenth hole by draining a 15 ft putt and then completed the nine with four pars, one bogey and three more birdies, which included a birdie on the par four, 410-yard finishing hole.
That left her at six under after day one of the 54-hole tournament and alone in first place.
The second day was played on the Faldo Course where she was three under after the first nine and one over par on the back nine , leaving her at two under for the day ,eight under for the tournament and tied for first place with Kaitlin Milligan from Norman, Oklahoma.
The last day was played on the Palmer Course where Osland was even par on the front nine for the day leaving her at eight under for the tournament and one stroke better than Milligan.
Meanwhile, playing in the final group with Osland and Milligan was Elizabeth Wang from San Marino ,California, who went four under on the front nine, leaving her tied with Osland and one shot better than Miligan after nine.
The final nine wasn’t as kind and Osland went four over to finish tied for second place at four under par for the tournament with Kung Kim from Chandler, Arizona. Wang won the tournament at nine under par.
Osland said that although she would have liked to win, whenever you get to play in the final group on the final day of a tournament, it is a great learning experience.
Osland is now on her way to Australia to play in qualifying tournaments for the two LPGA events to be played in February, weather permitting.
